Dyslexia

Dyslexia – is a term used to describe a disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols. There are a variety of reason why a child may have difficulty learning to read these reasons include

  • visual problems
  • auditory processing problems
  • poor phonetic awareness
  • visual processing problems
  • poor concentration
  • speech delay

There are many strategies to help children with dyslexia read including

  • identifying child`s preferred style of learning
  • teaching phonetics
  • addressing sensory processing issues
  • guided reading
  • computer programs such as Fast for Word , Reading Assistance and Cogmed
  • designing classroom based programs to support teachers  to better address child’s individual needs
